Overall cheerleading is athletic and requires skill, even if people disagree. Cheerleading again is competitive, takes time, skill, commitment, and is truly a sport. I have to go work to perfect my state routine. The definition of a high school sideline cheerleading is a cheerleader who stands on the sideline to cheer on their team. The definition of a competitive cheerleader is an athlete who performs a routine for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, doing stunts, tumbling, and jumps. In competitive cheer you go to competitions and perform and get judged, however, in sideline cheerleading there is really no judging besides the crowd watching the game. Cheerleading is a sport for so many different reasons, it teaches you commitment, pushes you past your limits, and allow you to achieve a goal. Commitment is a lifelong skill that is good to have.

No one can deny that cheerleading involves a huge amount of athleticism, skill, flexibility and endurance but can it rightfully be described as a sport? In this essay, my objective is to prove that cheerleading is a modern day sport. Consequently, I will be considering the aspects of this physical activity that meet the requirements of the officials determining what is considered a certified sport. So why is it that there is so much deliberation on this matter? If anything, cheerleading is more than a sport as it an artistic performance which combines a range of additional elements — athleticism, dance, music and, dare I say, fashion.
In: English and Literature. We compete at about four competitions a year, depending on how well we are doing that year; we could go to more competitions. The competitions are usually about two to two and a half hours away. To qualify for the IHSA state meet the squad must make it in the top five at their respective sectional, this year ours was in Highland, Illinois. For the ICCA championship, a squad must make seventy-five percent of their overall score.
